Research and Mutual Support Opportunities
We are looking for university-based programs that are interested in peer-review and replication of our research about the effects of the Playground Enhancement Program. We also have suggestions for conducting new research related to children and school playgrounds.

We are interested in learning how schools are integrating our resources into their systemic framework, and in your suggestions for how we might improve upon or extend our products and publications to serve your needs. We have, for example, created PEP Cans just for Middle Schools and Pre-schools in addition to our basic PEP Can designed for K-8 schools.

PEP founder Teresa Jacobs started this work in response to her own child's troubled experiences on the school playground as a first grader in 1993. This personal concern quickly and naturally grew into larger questions and interests in the well-being of all school children (Jacobs holds a Masters degree in Psychology/Counseling and has a long-term interest in the play of children).

Jacobs is grateful for the support and involvement of many schools, parents and professionals who have contributed to the development and success of PEP. She takes heart in the increasing number of individuals who share the belief that recess is not a frivolous part of the school day, and who have involved themselves in exploring the possibilities of creating something great for students on their playgrounds.

Jacobs has served as a school board official and worked as a staff member, consultant and volunteer in a wide variety of nonprofit organizations that provide essential community resources, support democracy, and promote harmonious living. She otherwise enjoys art, gardening and outdoor activities with her family and friends. Jacobs has made use of her creative arts background to create many of the resources that are part of PEP.
